Schedule for taking the Math Placement Exam.
Students who intend to register for any math course numbered 100A/100 to 106/106C must satisfy both a prerequisite requirement and a readiness requirement.
- The prerequisite requirement is satisfied by passing the prerequisite course(s) in high school or college with a grade of 'P' (pass) or 'C' or better. If the prerequisite was taken more than once, the most recent grade is the applicable one.
- The readiness requirement is satisfied in ONE of the following three ways:
- Having a qualifying score on the Math Placement Exam after May 2009.
- Having completed or currently taking the prerequisite at UNL, UNO or UNK.
- Having a grade of 'D' or 'D+' at UNL, UNO or UNK in the course in which you plan to register.
Students who register for a course for which they are not qualified under this policy will be dropped from the course.

A Practice Math Placement Exam booklet is avaliable.
Exams are administered in the morning during some new student enrollment days utilizing the written format. All new freshmen students should take the Math Placement Exam, as should transfer students if there is a possibility you will decide to take Math 106 or below.
Taking the MPE via a computer
Other students who need to take the Math Placement Exam should do so through our computerized setup. NOTE: The student must already have been admitted to UNL and entered into the course registration computer database (SIS+) to be able to take the online version of the Math Placement Exam.
Rules for taking the MPE
A Government issued Photo ID will be required (UNL Student ID or Valid Drivers License). You are also required to provide your 8-digit NU Identification Number. (This NU Identification Number was provided to you in your confirmed Admissions letter.) Without these two pieces of identification, you will not be able to take the MPE. You do not need to pre-register for a session date, you simply show up at the site that fits into your schedule. You are allowed to bring and use any calculator EXCEPT calculators that have symbolic manipulation functions (such as the TI-89 or TI-92).
- All students are allowed 1 separate attempt per day on any day the testing center is open.
- All students are allowed 3 separate attempts per year to qualify for a Math class on any day the testing center is open.
- Results will be known immediately after taking the exam. The following dates reflect Monday through Friday only.....NO Saturday and Sunday Administration dates.
